GoodGym | Healthy Leafing Centre
Our latest GoodGym task brought us to the Age UK Healthy Living Centre, also known as the Yalding Centre, to help clean up their garden. It was a crisp but glorious sunny morning, perfect running weather. The Yalding Centre is an open access centre for older people providing a wide range of services and social activities. Their aim is to maintain and improve physical and mental wellbeing and to promote an active lifestyle.
As the Yalding Centre wasn't too far away from FGS HQ, we decided to do some intervals to blow off the early morning cobwebs. After 3 fast laps of Bermondsey Spa Gardens, we continued our run and it wasn't long until we arrived at our next task location.
We were greeted by Catrina explained the few jobs to be done in the garden. Essentially lots of weeding, leaf clearing and general tidying up so that the visitors and members don't trip up or slip on anything and can enjoy the garden in the Autumn sunshine.
We got stuck in! After a half an hour, most of the leaves were cleared and the tidying up commenced. In a forgotten corner of the garden, a heap of rubbish bags had been abandoned from previous work. This was quite heavy and dirty work so the wheelbarrow came in handy! At the same time, some of the guys were getting rid of a large patch of weeds, turning the soil and raking it out.
Our work was done! We cleared away everything, returned our tools to the shed and ran back to HQ. Thanks to Sarah from GoodGym for bringing us on another epic task, already looking forward to the next one!
